Nerve glides!
In the video below I’m working with Miles on the femoral nerve glide. I am first establishing the intended joint positions to help him find the femoral nerve, then we’re “gliding” through it.
The femoral nerve is a powerful nerve mobilization that can drastically improve your movements (in gait, jumping, walking, inclines- stairs), motor activation, reduce pain and improve proprioception. With a “pinched” femoral nerve, you may notice weakness in the thigh and hip.
The femoral allows for flexion of the hip by the following muscles:
-
Sartorius
-
Rectus Femoris
-
Pectineus

Keep in mind that on a scale of 1-10, DO NOT go above a 3-4. Nerves CAN BE OVER-TENSIONED. A little mobilizing can go a long way to improve how you feel and move.
Less is more when it comes to nerve glides. Take your time and move slowly.
